Summer Snack Ideas to Beat the Heat this Summer

In the unforgiving heat, Healthy summer foods play an important role in providing the body with the vitamins, minerals and water it needs to thrive this season. Here are some of our favourite Cool Summer Treats to keep energy levels high and the heat out! 

1.Trail Mix with Nuts and Seeds 

Ingredients: 

  • 1/2 cup almonds 
  • 1/2 cup cashews 
  • 1/4 cup pumpkin seeds 
  • 1/4 cup sunflower seeds 
  • 1/4 cup dried cranberries 
  • 1/4 cup dark chocolate chips (optional) 

Instructions: 

  • In a bowl, mix together almonds, cashews, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, dried cranberries, and dark chocolate chips (if using). 
  • Store in an airtight container for snacking.

2.Watermelon Chaat 

Ingredients: 

  • 2 cups diced watermelon 
  • 1/4 cup chopped cucumber 
  • 1/4 cup chopped mango 
  • 1/4 cup chopped onion 
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh mint leaves 
  • Chaat masala, to taste 
  • Lemon juice, to taste 

Instructions: 

  • In a mixing bowl, combine diced watermelon, cucumber, mango, onion, and mint leaves. 
  • Sprinkle with chaat masala and lemon juice. 
  • Toss gently to combine. 
  • Serve chilled. 

 

  1. Cucumber Raita

Ingredients: 

  • 1 cup plain yogurt 
  • 1/2 cup grated cucumber 
  • 1/4 teaspoon roasted cumin powder 
  • Salt, to taste 
  • Chopped coriander leaves for garnish 

Instructions: 

  • In a bowl, whisk together yoghurt, grated cucumber, roasted cumin powder, and salt. 
  • Garnish with chopped coriander leaves. 
  • Serve chilled. 

Almond Butter Energy Balls 

Ingredients: 

  • 1 cup rolled oats 
  • 1/2 cup almond butter 
  • 1/4 cup honey or maple syrup 
  • 1/4 cup shredded coconut 
  • 1/4 cup chopped almonds 
  • 1/4 cup dark chocolate chips 

Instructions: 

  • In a mixing bowl, combine rolled oats, almond butter, honey or maple syrup, shredded coconut, chopped almonds, and dark chocolate chips. 
  • Mix until well combined. 
  • Roll the mixture into small balls using your hands. 
  • Place the energy balls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. 
  • Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to set. 
  • Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week. 

 

4.Mango Lassi 

Ingredients: 

  • 1 ripe mango, peeled and diced 
  • 1 cup plain yogurt 
  • 1/2 cup milk 
  • Sugar or honey, to taste 
  • Cardamom powder (optional) 
  • Ice cubes 

Instructions: 

  • In a blender, combine diced mango, plain yoghurt, milk, sugar or honey, and cardamom powder. 
  • Blend until smooth. 
  • Add ice cubes and blend again until frothy. 
  • Pour into glasses and serve chilled. 

Not a snack, but a much loved cooler, mango lassi had to make it to this list.  

 

  1. Sprouts Salad

Ingredients: 

  • 1 cup mixed sprouts (such as moong, chickpeas, lentils) 
  • 1/4 cup chopped onion 
  • 1/4 cup chopped tomato 
  • 1/4 cup chopped cucumber 
  • Chaat masala 
  • Lemon juice 
  • Chopped coriander leaves 

Instructions: 

  • In a bowl, mix mixed sprouts, chopped onion, tomato, and cucumber. 
  • Sprinkle with chaat masala and lemon juice. 
  • Garnish with chopped coriander leaves. 
  • Toss gently to combine. 
  • Serve chilled. 

 

  1. Chia Seed Pudding

Ingredients: 

  • 2 tablespoons chia seeds 
  • 1/2 cup almond milk (or any milk of your choice) 
  • 1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup 
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract 
  • Fresh fruits for topping (such as berries, and sliced banana) 

Instructions: 

  • In a bowl, whisk together chia seeds, almond milk, honey or maple syrup, and vanilla extract. 
  • Let the mixture sit for 10 minutes, then whisk again to break up any clumps. 
  • Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight until the mixture thickens and becomes pudding-like. 
  • Serve topped with fresh fruits. 

 

Pro Tip:
