BEAT THE WINTER BLUES - NATURALLY!

We firmly believe that the world is divided into two kinds of people, winter haters and winter lovers. We happen to be - team latter.

Lying under a soft, fuzzy blanket, binge watching Harry Potter (don’t miss the reunion) with a mug of hot chocolate and a snack of aromatic, roasted nuts. Ah, what’s not to love?

And those of you who just grimaced at this - hold your horses! Instead of hibernating through this season and dreaming about hot, summer days, try these really simple ways to beat the winter blues and who knows, you might just happily join Team Winter. 


Eat Some “Mini Body Heaters”

Almonds make you hot! Yes, you read that right. Everyone has heard that almonds sharpen your memory, but did you know that they also help you keep your body warm by amping up your metabolic rate, hence increasing your temperature.

Eating just 6-8 almonds a day can strengthen your body and mind in greater ways than you can imagine. Pair them with a hot beverage and voila, you’re all warm and toasty!


Fight the Flu

The dietary fiber, protein, healthy fats (monounsaturated) and Vitamin E present in these tiny, scrumptious things, helps cut down bad cholesterol, increases production of good cholesterol and boosts immunity thereby keeping nasty colds and infections at bay. Drop them in your cereal bowl, nibble on them in the evening, garnish hot milk with them, just find a way to eat them.

Pro tip - those of you who can’t stand the taste of raw almonds, try roasted almonds. Roasted almonds have a nice smoky flavour that masks the intense taste that raw ones have and still give you all the benefits!


Get Silky Skin

Along with almonds, walnuts also help in heating up your body. The antioxidants and omega 3 fatty acids present in walnuts prevent dry skin and hair by adding moisture to them. They also improve gut health, pro- tect skin from the sun and fight signs of ageing.

In a nutshell (pun intended), regularly consuming walnuts can make your skin look more youthful and radi- ant. Ever heard of the winter glow?


Keep your Weight in Check

Like us, do you also feel that you tend to eat a little more in winter? One of the primary reasons why this happens is because people usually drink less water during this season. Our brains get confused not being able to differentiate between thirst and hunger, and we ultimately end up eating more than we need to. 

So, you might want to drink some water before reaching for that calorie-laden snack, post meals. 

Another reason is that when you feel cold, you burn extra calories in order to produce more heat in the body. This can make you feel hungry quite frequently in winters. 

An easy hack to curb your cravings and keep you feeling full for longer is to munch on a handful of nuts like cashews, almonds, walnuts, pistachios and peanuts. Nuts are rich in fiber, energy and nutrients, so they are incredibly effective at reducing your appetite and also make for a delicious, filling snack that is actually good for you!
